Bengals have a luxurious short coat with a silky texture and a glittering appearance. Their fur is relatively low-maintenance compared to longer-haired breeds, but some grooming is still necessary.

Tips for Bengal coat care

• Weekly brushing: Use a soft-bristle brush or grooming glove to remove loose hair and reduce shedding. Bengals tend to shed minimally, but regular grooming enhances their coat’s natural sheen.

• Spot cleaning: Occasionally, you may need to clean specific areas with a damp cloth, especially if your Bengal gets into messes during play.

• Bathing (if needed): Bengals are water-curious and may tolerate occasional baths. Use a cat-specific shampoo to preserve their skin’s natural oils.

Bengal cats are active climbers and scratchers, so nail trimming every 2–3 weeks is essential. Provide a sturdy scratching post to maintain paw health and satisfy their instinctive need to scratch.

• Ears: Check weekly for debris or wax buildup. Use a damp cotton ball (never a Q-tip) to gently clean their ears.

• Eyes: Bengals are generally free of tear staining, but occasional wiping with a soft cloth can help keep the eyes clear and bright.

• Teeth: Regular dental care is vital. Brush their teeth with cat-friendly toothpaste at least twice a week, or offer dental treats as a supplement.

Bengals are highly active, requiring a diet rich in protein. Feed them high-quality, grain-free food to support their muscular build and high energy levels. Wet food (raw chicken thigh fillet) can be incorporated to maintain hydration, especially if they are reluctant to drink water.

These cats are intelligent and thrive on stimulation:

• Provide puzzle feeders and interactive toys.

• Schedule daily playtime to burn off energy and maintain their athletic physique.

• Consider leash training for safe outdoor exploration, as Bengals enjoy walking and exploring their surroundings.

At New Wave Kitty cattery, we specialize in breeding Bengals with unique dominant blue and odd-eyes traits. These stunning features are purely aesthetic and do not impact the health or care requirements of the cats. Our Bengals are just as robust and vibrant as those with traditional markings, showcasing the beauty of diversity in the breed.

Routine vet checkups and vaccinations are essential for keeping your Bengal healthy. Spaying or neutering is recommended unless you are part of a breeding program.

Owning a Bengal cat is a rewarding experience, combining the thrill of their wild-like beauty with the affection of a domestic pet. With proper grooming, a balanced diet, and plenty of mental stimulation, your Bengal will lead a happy, healthy life.
