A day that started out normally…
Oddy, the beautiful mother cat
The star of the story is Oddy, a stunning dominant odd-eyed silver tortie British Longhair, and this is her second litter. As an experienced cat breeder, I knew her kittens would be exceptional, given her unique genetic background. Although we don’t yet know their eye colors, we are eagerly waiting to see how their unique features develop.

Murphy’s law states, anything that can happen at the most inconvenient time will happen. And so it did.
Our goat went into labor too!
While Oddy was experiencing her first contractions, one of our young Nubian goats, a one-year-old first-time mother, decided it was the perfect moment to bring her kid into the world as well. First-time goat births always require close monitoring, as inexperienced mothers sometimes need assistance.
The gestation period for goats is about 150 days, while for cats, it’s 63-65 days. That means the chance of a random goat and a random cat giving birth on the exact same day is pretty slim. But just how slim?
Math fun – what are the odds of this special day?
Since these two species have very different pregnancy lengths, their birth timings are essentially independent of each other. If we assume the due dates are randomly distributed throughout the year, then the probability of a specific goat and a specific cat delivering on the same day is roughly:
1/150*1/65=1/9750
So the odds of this happening are nearly 1 in 10,000! No wonder it felt like such a rare and magical moment.
Newborn kittens and a baby goat – unexpected friendships
Oddy gave birth to beautiful Selkirk Rex kittens, all with heterozygous curly coats, which makes them even more special! As the mother cat carefully cleaned her tiny newborns, the boys brought the little goat into the house to keep him warm.
And that’s when something adorable happened—the baby goat immediately bonded with another newcomer! New Wave Kitty Cattery hasn’t just welcomed kittens and a baby goat—we also have a new furry family member: a Chinese Crested dog, who seems to have instantly taken the baby goat under his wing.
What happened next? You’ll find out soon! Stay tuned, as we’ll be sharing a video of these adorable newborns shortly!
