Toyger cats – the majestic miniature tiger
Toygers are a designer breed, originally developed from Bengal cats to resemble a miniature tiger. They have the wild beauty of a tiger but with the affectionate temperament of a domestic cat, making them highly sought after for their appearance and personality. Toygers are known for their striking coat patterns, reminiscent of the stripes of a tiger, as well as their muscular build and expressive faces.
At New Wave Kitty Cattery, we breed Toyger cats in two main color variations: brown and silver. These color variations, combined with the dramatic stripes and markings of the Toyger, result in a cat that not only stands out for its beauty but also embodies the elegance and grace of its wild counterpart.
Our whited Toyger program
The whited Toyger program at New Wave Kitty Cattery aims to recreate the look of a real tiger even more accurately by introducing white markings along the neck and underbelly, similar to the underbelly of a tiger in the wild. These white areas further enhance the Toyger’s tiger-like appearance, giving them an even more striking and realistic look.
While the whited Toyger trait is still relatively rare, we have successfully integrated it into our breeding lines, producing Toyger kittens that are truly unique. The white markings on the neck and belly make them visually distinct, and we believe that this feature adds an extra level of beauty to the Toyger breed.
Dominant blue and odd eyes – rare beauty in Toyger cats
One of the standout features of our Toyger kittens is our dominant blue and odd eyes program. This program introduces the dominant blue eye gene, which can result in stunning kittens with bright blue eyes or the rare odd-eyed appearance, where one eye is blue and the other is another color. This trait is incredibly rare in Toygers and adds an extraordinary element to an already magnificent breed.
In the early generations, the dominant blue and odd eyes gene can sometimes cause white markings on the kittens, particularly around the paws, nose, and neck areas. This is something we are working to refine through our selective breeding program, with the goal of minimizing these markings while preserving the captivating blue and odd eyes.
Our vision is to eventually combine our dominant blue and odd eyes and whited Toyger programs, resulting in Toyger kittens with striking blue eyes, odd eyes, and the white underbelly markings of a true tiger. We have already made significant progress towards this goal, and we anticipate that by 2025, we will be consistently producing Toyger kittens that embody these rare and sought-after traits.
